Dear Members of European Hip Society, Dear friends,

Last 10th February, the IV European Joint Meeting was celebrated in Madrid. This is a combined meeting organised by the Spanish Hip Society (SECCA) and the European Hip Society (EHS). Many colleagues are involved in both Societies and share Hip International as official Journal.

Since the first edition, on 24th January 2020, the main purpose has been to share knowledge between different international speakers linked to both societies in a dynamic way to encourage discussion and participation. The original idea was to include current and hot topics related to hip artrhoplasty in three different sessions. A further session is related to clinical cases presented by Spanish surgeons in a practical and interactive manner for all participants. The Meeting was on-line in 2021 and again face-to-face last year.

During this last edition, Profs Johan Karrholm, Theofilos Karachalios and Luigi Zagra participated as international speakers with different lectures about “revisited” options for the femoral component in total hip arthroplasty, congenital hip disease and revision surgery. Their active discussion with all participants was greatly appreciated.

National speakers linked to both societies like Drs Ana Cruz, Miquel Pons, Fernando Marques, Jose Cordero (EHS Nat Rep for Spain) and myself also presented lectures about these topics and other challenging situations in hip surgeries. Moreover, the clinical cases session presented by Spanish surgeons, Drs Gomez-Vallejo, Moreta and a further open case, was also lively debated and proved extremely interesting.

All attendees also appreciated the moderation by Prof Enrique Gomez-Barrena (EFORT President), Jorge Albareda (SECCA President) and Ricardo Terre (SECCA Past-President) throughout the day.

Finally, I would like to thank the support from SECCA and EHS technical secretary for the successful meeting.

All the best,

Eduardo García-Rey, EHS EduCom and SECCA Secretary General
