EHS Secretary General, Professor Eleftherios Tsiridis

COVID-19 cases continue around the planet and news focuses on the vaccine roll out. Scientists are celebrated worldwide for their amazing ability to create successful vaccines in such a short time span, but now it is up to acquisition deals, production lines, delivery systems and logisticians to implement the delivery. No mean feat, as we are seeing, with most congresses becoming hybrid rather than physical in the coming months. However, this can be a very successful way of learning, as we experienced with the hybrid EHS-organised MAST 7 course a few weeks ago in Current Concepts in Advanced Arthroplasty Surgery. Without the need for travel, over 530 attendants came together for the 3-day event, from Europe, Central, North and South America, Russia, the Middle East, China, Japan and Australia, with 31 speakers and four satellite symposia.

As usual we summarise the Johns Hopkins University data below with figures for cases and deaths from COVID-19 in our member countries, both in Europe and Internationally. In addition this month we present data from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (an agency of the European Union) in the map below.

Please contact the EHS Secretarial Office via our Membership Secretary (samstokesehs@gmail.com) with reports on the COVID-19 developments in your area which you would like to share directly with our fellow hip surgeon members. Thank you.
