Dear EHS Members & Friends,

Light as the wings of a butterfly…

After so many alarming news on health, economic and professional levels, I would have liked this early summer newsletter to deliver a hopeful message for these beautiful days to come…

Certainly, the realities remain, with their share of uncertainties, but under the sun, should we not hope to have better morale?

Our EHS congress planned for October 2020 had to be postponed to September 9 and 10, 2021, but this year, we will attend in October the “virtual” EFORT congress… It will be the first realization of a “cyber” meeting of what could become the standard for our future congresses?

For the EHS, we are thinking of a face-to-face congress formula, every two years, with a “cyber” congress in between, allowing us to maintain an even more scientific and fraternal contact within our community under the aegis of the European Hip Society…

So, everyone, our best wishes for a great summer…

Kindest regards on behalf of the entire EHS Board

Jean-Alain Epinette, MD

EHS President

Following this is the MAST 7 Masterclass in Arthroplasty Surgery, which will be a Hybrid Conference this year from 11-13th December 2020 in Thessaloniki, Greece (an EHS Co-organised Course).

Meanwhile, we are pleased to all be getting back to elective orthopaedic hip surgery and most of us are now very busy. Let’s try to have an uneventful, quiet summer, hoping for a vaccine and being fully aware that Covid-19 is around the corner.

Best wishes,

EHS Secretary General, Professor Eleftherios Tsiridis

EHS Ambassador of the Month, Bulent Atilla

Dear Friends,

As a proud member of European Hip Society, it has always been my deepest pleasure and privilege to meet and exchange ideas with fellow colleagues all over the world under its platform. Our field has always been a major domain and busy practice among orthopaedic subspecialties and yet tremendous information and new concepts are being introduced everyday. In more than 20 years, I had the opportunity to learn, to collaborate and to improve my understanding of hip surgery as well as enjoying close friendship with its members.

Related to the unique characteristics of my country, the region and my institution, I have been able to collect significant experience on various hip problems of young individuals where hip preservation has been the priority amid a busy practice on complex hip arthroplasty and revisions. Recently introduced robotic technology reminds me again that this is an everlasting art with an increased momentum.

From the beginning, in Hacettepe University, Ankara’s busy academic environment, together with the partnership of former EHS president and national delegate Dr Tokgözoğlu, we have been able to establish strong connections with Turkish Arthroplasty Society (KADAD) and EHS in every possible aspect including educational projects, practice management, journal publishing and legislative issues. For me this is a story of success which has yielded many fruitful results.

Today, in the depressive atmosphere of global pandemic where we have to cease some face-to-face contact, my deepest hope is to meet and share again with all members of EHS to cherish unforgettable memories in the most recent future.

With my best regards,

Bulent Atilla MD, Prof of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, President of KADAD

We'll meet again. Meanwhile, we remember recent congresses...
