Dear EHS Members,
Best wishes and Happy New Year!
“The best way to predict the future is to create it”
(Abraham Lincoln)
In these first days of 2020, I would like to say again what a pleasure it is being the President of a Scientific Society so active, enthusiastic and efficient as the EHS… Nothing in fact could be possible without each of the members of both Scientific and Educational Committees, chaired by Luigi Zagra and Gösta Ullmark, as well as each EHS National Representative within this vast Scientific Community, without forgetting our EHS Ambassadors, who speak good science here and there on behalf of our European Hip Society…
The international congress every two years is of major importance, but an “EHS life” does exist between these congresses… through more and more frequent and fruitful links with EFORT, warm welcome in our “fellowships” for our young colleagues, and again more frequent cooperation with National congresses and “combined” meetings. Let’s not forget the European Hip Society website, nor the publications in Hip International…
The number of our members is growing significantly from 30 European countries and 23 beyond… The coming 14th congress in Lille (France) is already very attractive at the end of this year. Our European Hip Society is increasingly positioning itself as the European scientific reference for the hip, and must continue to play a major role as a partner in the face of Hip Societies overseas, and in particular the American one…
Basic Science, Current practices and future trends are here in our hands… Let’s go on our way in 2020 to enhance better Hip knowledge, major exchanges of ideas and debates on controversial topics, and new findings upon future tracks of novel technologies!
It is my pleasure wishing each of you the very best in your private activities and professional accomplishment during the entire New Year… Keep in touch together and more to see 😊 !!!
On behalf of the EHS Board
Jean-Alain Epinette, MD
President
Letter from the Secretary General, Professor Eleftherios Tsiridis
Dear Members,
Thanks for the high praise we received for the MAST 6 course in Arthoplasty Surgery here in Thessaloniki, Greece, where over 350 delegates came to soak up cutting edge knowledge from 46 international orthopaedic experts. The Masterclass is an annual event organised by EHS and supported by EFORT – you can enjoy our photo gallery here. During the congress, Prof Kjærsgaard-Andersen was awarded the title “Visiting Professor of Orthopaedics” and Prof Goerge Bentley “Honorary Professor of Orthopaedics” from Aristotle University Thessaloniki Medical School.
This month, EHS wishes a warm welcome to new Full Member Dr Claus Varnum from Vejle in Denmark; Dr Andrea Parente of Milan, Italy, who moves up from Young membership to Full; and International Members Dr Yeonghun Kang from Busan, Korea and Dr Layth Habbabah from Erbil, Iraq.
The New Year brings the Combined Meeting of EHS and the Spanish Hip Society (SECCA) on 24th January in Madrid, Spain. Next is the ICJR Direct Anterior Approach THA Course in Innsbruck, Austria (30th January – 1st February), where EHS members can enjoy a 50% discount (click the button below for more info). And at the end of February it’s time for the EHS-organnised Bern Hip Symposium in Switzerland. More meetings are on our Hip Meetings Calendar.
Happy New Year to all our EHS members around the world and let’s continue to work together in this new decade to improve the quality of hip surgery for our patients.
Best wishes,
EHS Secretary General, Professor Eleftherios Tsiridis
EHS Ambassador of the Month, Stanislav Bondarenko
I am deeply honored to be chosen as Ambassador of the EHS. I have been the National Representative for Ukraine for five years and for me it has been a time of professional growth and valuable collaboration. For this period of time I have been promoting EHS on the terrains of Ukraine and I am happy to report that 18 Ukrainian orthopaedic surgeons are now EHS members, two of which have taken part in the fellowship competition and have been awarded the EHS Travelling Fellowship grant. I am proud not just for myself, but for all Ukrainian orthopaedic surgeons who are part of EHS.
During the period of Ukrainian’s membership in EHS we have organized three international conferences in collaboration with EHS in 2016, 2017 and 2019. By providing our conferences we involve top level professionals in the field of hip and knee pathology from all around world, including members of the EHS Executive Committee.
I’d like to use this chance to thank EHS for their continuous support in the process of organizing such a high-level scientific and educational events, which are of high importance for my country.
As for me, I have built my professional career in the leading Ukrainian orthopaedic institution (Sytenko Institute of Spine and Joint Pathology). Here I performed my PhD research in 2009, and defended my doctoral research in 2018.
I had the privilege to undergo Rothman-Ranawat travelling fellowship in USA and Canada; this was one of the best experiences in my career, which gave me the possibility to refine clinical practice.
I continue working in Sytenko Institute as Associate Professor and Head Research Scientist in the department of joint pathology. In my research works, I focus on osseointegration of different types of implant surfaces; and as surgeon, I perform complex primary and revision THA and TKA in my routine work.
The new year has just started, it is a wonderful and joyful time which I hope you’re spending with your families and your beloved people.
I’d like to wish you all a successful and fruitful year, full of achievements, professional advances and happiness.
It is also time for planning, this is why I’d like to invite you to participate in Sytenko International Conference on Hip and Knee pathology, 30-31 of October, 20020, in Kharkiv, Ukraine, which has become a traditional annual event.
I hope to continue my activity as a member and National Representative for Ukraine to strengthen the position of EHS in the orthopaedic world.
