Letter from the President, Dr B Willem Schreurs
Dear All,
Last week, we sent out invitations for the oral and poster presentations at the EHS meeting in The Hague. Of course, we hope that all who are selected for either a poster or an oral presentation can come to the Netherlands.
All submitted abstracts were scored by an independent review system. The 10 top-scoring abstracts will be part of one of the two special sessions for Award Abstracts. The authors of these excellent papers have been informed also, and congratulated.
For clarity again, only after the presenter of the oral or poster has been registered by our PCO Intercongress, will the poster or oral become part of the final scientific programme.
For all of you who are planning to join us at the EHS in The Hague, please register before July 1st to benefit from the “early bird” registration.
In May, Dr Grammatopoulos and Dr Merle were our EHS Travelling Fellows 2018 and they visited Turkey for two weeks. You can read their report about their experience here. As you can read, they had a great experience in Turkey. On behalf of the European Hip Society I would like to thank both the team of Professors Atilla and Tokgözoğlu in Ankara, as well as the team of Assoc Prof Çağlar and Chief Resident Dr Işık for the great programme.
Best wishes,
Your EHS President, B Willem Schreurs
Letter from the Secretary General, Professor Eleftherios Tsiridis
Dear Members,
I am delighted to publish below the report from the EHS Travelling Fellowship 2018 which was organised by our very good friends, Prof Tokgözoğlu and Prof Atilla, of Turkey. Of course, one was a president of EHS in 2003-4, is Nat Rep for Turkey and sits on the SciCom and the other is our EduCom Vice Chairman, having sat on the committee for a few years already.
This was a wonderful opportunity for our two members, Dr George Grammatopoulos (UK) and Dr Christian Merle (Germany), who faced very fierce competition to be selected. The Fellowship in Ankara and Istanbul was full of excellent scientific content, plenty of time in OR, culture from the surrounding areas and of course no end of great hospitality. Read the report here. They are both now automatically welcomed as Full Members of EHS.
Meanwhile, we are about to announce the two EHS Visiting Fellows 2018 – this is the Autumn fellowship run by EHS and is an EFORT-approved programme. The EduCom have made their votes and now it is down to the ExCom for the final decision when they meet in Barcelona. We look forward to all our EHS Committee meetings in Barcelona, also including the NatRep, the EduCom and the SciCom.
I would very much like to announce to you all the “Tsiridis Frimley Orthopaedic Travelling Fellowship“, offered by the Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust in South East England. This is a one year fixed-term contract, available from August 2018, designed to provide skills and competencies above and beyond what is currently required to obtain a CCT in Trauma & Orthopaedics. It affords an excellent training opportunity in the whole spectrum of orthopaedic surgery and includes regular supervised elective and trauma clinics and OR sessions. It is supported by educational meetings and relevant research. For more information, click here.
We are pleased to welcome several new faces to EHS: New Full members are Dr Stig Jakobsen from Denmark and Dr Andrii Babko from Ukraine. New Young Members include Dr Arjan De Beus from The Netherlands, Dr Christos Milaras from Hellas and Dr Oleg Ovychinnikov from Ukraine.
Finally, Per Kjaersgaard-Andersen, incoming President of EFORT, speaks to us below on the upcoming congress in Barcelona, where I hope to see many of you. EHS will have a booth as always and Samantha Stokes, our EHS Membership Secretary, will be happy to talk to you and of course to collect in person any outstanding membership fees.
