Letter from the President, Dr B Willem Schreurs
Dear Members,
The first steps for the European Hip Society meeting in 2020 have been made. Our incoming President, Jean-Alain Epinette, is looking for Lille as the location, a very attractive city in the northern part of France and the European Capital of Culture in 2005. More words from him below when you scroll down.
Also, after the successful first Visiting Fellowship in Greece in November/ December 2016, the EHS recently selected 2 new young and promising candidates for the first EHS Travelling Fellowship 2017. (See Secretary General’s letter for more info.)
Meanwhile, your ExCom is working on our constitution, which we will have checked by an external juridical adviser, to ensure it is adapted to the current times.
We are redefining the tasks and criteria for our main committees, the EHS Scientific Committee (SciCom) and the EHS Educational Committee (EduCom), as well as working on the repositioning of our National Delegates; we will better define their tasks and duties, to optimise the promotion of EHS on a national basis. We will keep you updated on all these items.
Wishing you on behalf of the European Hip Society a very sparkling 2017. We hope we will have your support in the coming year to further develop the influence of the European Hip Society and we hope that we can welcome many new members in 2017.
Best wishes,
Your EHS President, B Willem Schreurs
The EHS Travelling Fellows 2017:-
Letter from the Secretary General, Associate Prof Eleftherios Tsiridis
Dear Members,
EHS Secretary General, Associate Prof Eleftherios Tsiridis
Now I leave you with best wishes for the Christmas Season and all the best for the New Year.
Prof Werner Siebert, Kassel, Germany
EHS Past President 2016-18
PAST PRESIDENT (2016-18), Prof Werner Siebert
Dear Members of EHS,
As you all know, at our congress in Munich in September, I passed the Presidency of our society over to Dr B Willem Schreurs, who I wish every success for his congress in The Hague in 2018. I will remain on the ExCom as Past President until 2018 and will be also busy now as President of the German Orthopedic and Trauma Society.
Statistics from the Munich Congress show that we welcomed over 750 delegates, including more than 110 from Asia, ten from Africa and almost 50 from USA – four attendees even came all the way from Australia. We have had so many notes of congratulations from the many satisfied delegates who all comment on the excellent scientific content.
I would like to thank everyone from the Congress Team who helped to organise this event, for all their hard work during the two years leading up to the congress. I had great support and it is thanks to everyone that our congress was a success. I personally thank the EHS ExCom, SciCom, EduCom, our PA Mrs Samantha Stokes, all our National Representatives, every single speaker and each and every participant. Special thanks go to our friends from AAHKS and from the German Hip and the German Knee Society!
Last but not least, a big thank you to Dr Sabine Mai and my secretaries, Annett Frost and Sabrina Imeraj, plus all the ladies at the German congress organizing team.
Now I leave you with best wishes for the Christmas Season and all the best for the New Year.
If you missed out on the photos, click here to see the Munich page again. Goodbye and all the best to everybody from the leaving president,
Prof Werner Siebert
It became obvious for each of us that every member among our French Orthopaedic Community has right now to adhere to EHS. This is an absolute must, as individuals as a collective, to allow both a better understanding of what is happening in Europe in hip surgery, and to disseminate our “national” trends and ideas outside our borders.
Jean Alain Epinette, EHS President Elect
EHS PRESIDENT ELECT, Jean-Alain Epinette
Merry Christmas to all, and welcome to our new EHS French members!
Our European Hip Society (EHS) is a well-regarded scientific society grouping 32 European countries and many other countries (18) of each of the other continents, for all matters concerned with hip surgery. However, we recently considered the very low number of French members: of the 550 EHS members, only 22 were registered from France! Moreover, at the last congress in Munich in September 2016, among the 70 reviewers of all nationalities responsible for selecting communications, none were French!!!…
We thus decided among our French Society for Hip and Knee Surgery (SFHG) to strongly promote the French membership in EHS. A presentation was proposed at the recent Hip & Knee specialty day during the SOFCOT congress (November 2016), to highlight the different features provided by EHS, and the announcement of the Congress 2020 to be held in France (Lille). To date, more than 10 new French surgeons during the past month decided to join EHS through the specific page (translated in every language as well) devoted to “EHS partnership” from our SFHG web site : so… “Join EHS and welcome aboard!”.
Bridges between EHS and each national Hip Society already exist, particularly for round tables (as an example in France with dual mobility cups, and so on …), they must be amplified and each orthopaedic surgeon must not hesitate to get involved increasingly at European level: EHS is particularly interested in a wide share of knowledge and expertise from each of us!
So, thank you all for your enthusiastic involvement toward this European link between us… Best wishes from France and Happy New Year!
Jean-Alain Epinette, MD
