Acacio Ramos
Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon
My professional activity has been progressively focused on hip pathology, including hip preservation, hip arthroscopy, primary and revision hip arthroplasty, and the broader organisation of care pathways related to hip surgery. In parallel, I have maintained a sustained involvement in clinical research, medical education, scientific peer review, and organisational leadership within Orthopaedics and Traumatology.
I have been a member of the European Hip Society since 2019 and of the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy since 2021. Over the years, I have also developed close links with European orthopaedic institutions, including through EBOT, EFORT-related activities, scientific review work, and participation in international education and leadership programmes. These experiences have strengthened my conviction that Portugal should continue to have an active, visible and constructive role within the European Hip Society.
As Director of the Department of Orthopaedics at Hospital de Vila Franca de Xira, and through my previous and current roles in teaching, research coordination, national clinical pathway development and professional societies, I believe I can contribute to strengthening the connection between Portuguese hip surgeons and the European Hip Society. In particular, I would aim to promote wider participation of Portuguese colleagues in EHS activities, encourage collaborative research and education, and support the dissemination of European standards and initiatives within the Portuguese orthopaedic community.
