Our History

The EHS was founded in 1992 with a clear vision: to connect specialists in hip surgery across Europe and advance the field through collaboration

Today, EHS is a society of 500 members and is a recognised leader in education and research, providing a platform for knowledge exchange, innovation, and professional development.

Read our history below to learn about our origins and see how this non-profit organisation has grown from a group of 17 like-minded, convivial hip surgeon friends to become a strong society with over 1,100 delegates attending our last congress from over 90 countries!

Celebrating 25yrs of the European Hip Society (1992-2017)

True to our origins, we still organise a biennial scientific congress in the home town of the President (who changes every two years), serving as a key forum for knowledge exchange and collaboration in hip surgery.

To mark our 25th anniversary, EHS Past President Prof Wim Schreurs oversaw the creation of this commemorative booklet to gift to all our members at the EHS Congress 2018 in The Hague, The Netherlands.
