Andrew Manktelow

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (UK)
Trained at Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, I have a primary, complex primary and revision hip practice in Nottingham. My arthroplasty interest was developed during a year in Boston, at MGH.
My clinical work provides research opportunities and forms the basis of my educational activities. I travel widely to demonstrate my practice, setting up the Nottingham Revision Course in 2007. Our Revision Network, providing a forum for different hospitals to meet ‘virtually’ to plan complex cases, has received international attention.
I am active in implant development, part of a worldwide development team, I performed the first implantation of a now-established socket system in Nottingham in 2009. I am involved on ongoing development with a ceramic hip resurfacing, alongside other primary and revision hip projects.
President of the British Hip Soc in 2018, I was voted onto the BOA Council in 2019 and remain on Council to the present. I became a member of the International Hip Society in 2018 and have recently become the UK National Representative for the European Hip Society. I look forward to furthering the interactions between UK and European Hip Surgeon colleagues. I hope my work within the EHS SciCom will contribute to that goal.
I have little time to spare away from my work, though when quiet, I enjoy travelling, music, gardening, (watching) sport and planning future revisions.
