Dear Colleagues and Friends,

THANK YOU!!! We recently launched a proposal to all our members who want to get more involved in the scientific life of our Society, by sharing their Hip knowledge under the aegis of the European Hip Society, and thus becoming one of our official “EHS Ambassadors”.

In such a way, each EHS Ambassador would get the opportunity to participate as a speaker in lots of famous National and International meetings, supported by our Society. We would like to warmly thank all members who applied for such an involvement, as to date their number is already over 30, in addition to the members of our Scientific and Educational Committees!… Their application forms will be soon reviewed within the EHS board and the official list of the approved Ambassadors will be displayed on our EHS website. Do not hesitate to apply by using the following link:  EHS Ambassador

This is extremely encouraging, while more and more our Society actively participates in the worldwide life of our Orthopaedic Community. Last month our first official Ambassador was Nicolas Reina, from France… Today we are glad to welcome as our “Ambassador of the month” Aaron Ng, who is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon in UK. Aaron has been for ages an active EHS member, and the first to apply to this position with us… He will introduce himself within these newsletter lines and we wish for him an efficient and fruitful activity under the banner of the European Hip Society.

The annual EFORT congress is coming very soon in Lisbon. This meeting will allow for meeting altogether during the various sessions, and especially the EHS related slots, including the “Specialty Session” devoted to EHS works on Friday 7th June 15.00-18.30. Don’t miss it!… it will present up-to-date advances in “Innovations, Current Trends and Outcomes in Arthroplasty”.

Just the day before, on Thursday 6th June, our General Assembly will take place at 18:30, and will allow us to provide a complete agenda of the next 14th EHS meeting in Lille (France), through the first release of the official EHS LILLE 2020 website and the timetable for submitting your abstracts.

Here we are with fantastic projects in our professional life, while (as usual) “bringing orthopaedic hip surgeons together”!

More to see, and back soon…

On behalf of the entire EHS Board, our very best regards,

Jean-Alain Epinette, MD

President

Stockholm International Hip Revision Course 3-6 April was held in Watherfront Congress Centre in central Stockholm. Focus was lectures on latest scientific knowledge on all aspects of THA revision surgery.
The course was characterised by frequent interactive discussions with attendants and faculty.
EHS speakers were EHS president Professor Jean-Alain Epinette, past president Professor Wim Schreurs, past treasurer professor Theofilos Karachalios, past president professor Gösta Ullmark and EHS Nat Rep professor Per Wretenberg. Several Swedish top scientist professors were also included in course faculty.
Reasons for revision like loosening, dislocation, infection, periprostetic fracture and others were presented. Various models of cemented and cementless implants were systematically presented for their suitabilities according to specific cases.
The course was characterised by interactive discussions on best method and best implant. Should bone defects be replaced by trabecular metal of by bone grafts? When would an infection be suspected? Is a brace after dislocation ever indicated?
Attendants from many countries presented their traditions and methods. All attendants presented own revision cases followed by engaged discussions amongst audience and faculty.
Latest knowledge of microorganisms causing periprosthetic infection, antibiotics, one- or two-stage surgery and joint concentration of local antibiotics possibly mixed in bone graft were reported.
Each day also contained work shop on plastic bone for all attendants. Cementing technique, extended trochanteric osteotomy, impacting bone grafting in Acetabulum and in Femur and uncemented distal anchoring modular stem.
First evening included a nice dinner in a close by restaurant, second evening was fri in Stockholm city together with newly made international friends.
