Dear EHS friends,
The 34th Annual Meeting of the European Orthopaedic Research Society (EORS) was held in Madrid last 22nd – 25th September 2026. This year we had also the opportunity to host the 23rd International Meeting of the Association Research Circulation Osseouss (ARCO) into an International Combined Meeting.
Following EORS´ mission, the aim of this meeting was focused on a unique forum where orthopaedic surgeons, researchers with expertise on biology, biomechanics, and bioengineering, and translational investigators can present and discuss all topics related to our profession.
The very first day, ARCO group celebrated its International Meeting, including symposiums and free papers lectures by European, American and Asian colleagues on the challenging topic of bone osteonecrosis.
On the morning of 23rd September, there was a combined EORS-ARCO Session chaired by Prof Stuart Goodman and Prof Lynne Jones, where I participated as invited speaker on total hip arthroplasty (THA) and hip osteonecrosis. The feedback and discussion was highly appreciated among the participants.
After the EORS Congress opening ceremony, celebrated after ARCO´s last session, a special European Hip Society (EHS) session was included in the Symposium 4. The main topic was Bearing Surfaces and Modern Trends in Total Hip Arthroplasty and was chaired by Prof Laurent Sedel and, our EHS SciCom Chair, Prof Luigi Zagra. The programme included a Keynote Lecture by Claude Rieker, PhD, prominent researcher on THA and one of the most renewed ones on highly cross-linked polyethylene during the past three decades.
Later on, Profs Anne Lübecke (Swiss surgeon and past president of the International Society of Arthroplasty
Registries, Laurent Sedel (French surgeon expert on ceramics during the past five decades) and Theofilos Karachalios (past EHS Board member) presented different topics on evidence form the National Registries, biomechanics on hip capsules and robotic surgery. Specially, Prof L Zagra talked on hip biomechanics and clinical results for patients undergoing THA with complex dysplasia. As expected, discussion was exciting among attendees.
EORS Annual Meeting included 28 Symposium, 21 Free paper session and 3 oral poster sessions for those authors with the highest scoring poster submissions. The atmosphere of this multidisciplinary Congress joined young and senior investigators with orthopaedic surgeons reporting the clinical results obtained after implementing different innovations.
Future collaborations between the EHS and other societies with translational missions similar to that of EORS should be explored.
With my kindest regards to all EHS friends.
Sincerely,
Eduardo García-Rey, MD, PhD, FEBOT
