Words from our President, Prof Fares Haddad:-
It is with great sadness that I report the very sad and premature loss of our friend and colleague Dominic Meek. Dominic unfortunately passed away on Thursday night after a short but brave battle with lung cancer. He leaves behind his wife Judith and 4 children.
Dominic has been a great personal friend and a wonderful servant of trauma and orthopaedics and hip surgery in the UK and worldwide. Amongst many other leadership roles and accolades, he was a Hip Society Travelling Fellow, an ABC fellow, trustee of the BOA, president of the British Hip Society and an active member of both the European and International Hip Societies. He was also speciality editor for the at the Bone and Joint Journal for a decade, and helped shape hip research and education worldwide. He was a great leader at every level in Scottish Orthopaedics and continued working until the very end.
His contributions are too many to list now, but above all, most of you will have got to know him as a gentle giant who always had a smile on his face, had time for everybody, and a positive approach to anything that came into his path.
Many of our EHS members had got to know him extremely well personally, and all of us held him in the highest regard.
May he rest in peace.
