Dear EHS friends,
The 7th Edition of the European Combined Meeting EHS-SECCA was held in Madrid last 20th February 2026. As in previous years, Spanish and European Orthopaedic Surgeons had the opportunity to attend this one-day course focused on hip surgery. The aim of this meeting is to discuss on hot topics and to highlight evidence-based concepts. Both lectures and clinical-cases sessions were organised to ascertain this purpose.

First session included updates in primary total hip arthroplasty (THA). Insights from the Swedish Hip Arthroplasty brought main interest on surgical approaches, fixation and bearings. Furthermore, lectures on short stems, custom-made implants and long-term data on trabecular titanium coatings on the acetabular component encourage attendees participation. On the clinical-case session, complex two-stage infection multiple revision, cup loosening in congenital hip disease and controversy on one- versus two-stage periprosthetic joint infection were actively managed by moderators and participants. Thereafter, complex THA after chronic resection-arthroplasty and acetabular fractures provided relevant clinical data. Similarly, current updates on robotics, navigation and spinopelvic interactions in patients undergoing THA add interesting conclusions for such difficult topics. Later on, after lunch, challenging revision THA sessions were presented by expert surgeons. Basic principles on acetabular revision surgery to manage bone defect, dislocation and infection were reviewed and actively discussed.
This year, current EHS President, Prof Fares Haddad (United Kingdom), EHS Swedish National Representative, Prof Maziar Mohaddes, and Italian Hip Society Past-President, Prof Francesco Benazzo came to Madrid presenting several lectures. Similarly, SECCA current President, Fernando Marqués, EHS Spanish National Representative Prof Jose Cordero, as well as SECCA Members, Andrea D´Amelio (from Italy – also an EHS member), Esther Moya, and Basilio de la Torre participated on lectures. All speakers and participants shared knowledge during the whole day. Importantly, networking was evident in the breaks.
Year-by-year this combined meeting improves in an excellent atmosphere. This would be not possible without the support of both EHS and SECCA throughout this time.
Looking forward to meeting you next year!
Sincerely,
Eduardo García-Rey, MD, PhD, FEBOT
EHS EduCom Vice-Chairman
SECCA Vice-President
