Dear EHS Members,

As well as being President of EHS, I am honoured to also be President of my national orthopaedic society, the Hellenic Association of Orthopaedic Surgery & Traumatology (HAOST) as it celebrates its 80th Congress from 17-19th October 2024.

Therefore I am running the annually EHS-organised Masterclass in Arthroplasty Surgery Thessaloniki (MAST) simultaneously (18-19th October 2024) & I warmly invite you to please come and join us for intense orthopaedic learning here in my home town, where we will not only celebrate Hellenic excellence in orthopaedics, but will be joined by the greatest international names sharing their latest data & presenting video surgery. Register now HERE.

These events will be an excellent opportunity to test run the venue of our 16th EHS Congress 2025 in Thessaloniki on 16-17th October 2025, where we look forward to welcoming you all, as well as your partners, for whom we have drawn up an excellent cultural programme.

If you enjoy some summer hip homework, don’t forget that the replay of our EHS Webinars 2024 are now available to all for free HERE. The next live EHS Webinar is 12th September @ 18:00-19:30: Update your Knowledge on Primary THA. Dr Oliver Marin-Pena has organised a lively session with a selection of talks from ERAS & new toys to couple bearings and instability avoidance in high risk patients, then moving to the cross fire section and finishing with everybody voting on options of a very interesting case. I shall be joined by some excellent colleagues including Prof Luigi Zagra, Prof Nicolas Reina, Prof Jenaro Fernandez-Valencia, Dr Lewis PK Chan from Hong Kong, Prof Fares Haddad, Dr Olga Pidgaiska & Dr Stephan Vehmeijer. Registration opens soon.

Also in October, EHS gives patronage to the BHKM 2024 (Bilbao Hip & Knee Meeting) on 10-11 October, with an excellent line up of speakers, & is  honoured to be involved with the SHKS 2024 (Swedish Hip & Knee Meeting in Stockholm) on 17-18 October in collaboration with the Swedish Arthroplasty Register. A fantastic line up of names awaits you there.

That leaves the end of the month for the massive DKOU 2024 (German Congress of Orthopaedics & Traumatology on 22–25 October) in Berlin, where EHS has a symposium organised by our Nat Rep Prof Fritz Thorey on 24 October @ 10:30-11:30 CET:-

  • Algorithm for surgical hip dislocation for FAI – where we are today? Klaus Siebenrock
  • New Technologies in THA: Mako – the way to go Fares Haddad
  • One-stage vs two-stage bilateral THA – are there differences in complication and outcome? Fritz Thorey
  • Short femoral stems – update on results and indications Hans Gollwitzer
  • Approach extensions for revision arthroplasty with the DAA Martin Thaler

And as featured in July’s EHS Newsletter, we are also looking forward to upcoming collaborations with the orthopaedic societies of Bulgaria, Italy & Portugal in the coming weeks. Plan all your autumn of hip events via our EHS Hip Calendar HERE.

Finally, our EHS SciCom would like to welcome a new member following the retirement of Prof Johan Kärrholm (Sweden) – enormous thanks to him for his years of dedication to this committee over several congresses. (See above how to apply.)

Wishing each & every member a relaxing & rejuvenating summertime.

Best regards,

Prof Eleftherios Tsiridis
EHS President 2023-2025
