I am pleased to announce the launch of our membership list here on the EHS website – just click on “Directory” from the home page and see your name in the list. This is a useful networking tool to see which of your colleagues are members and which countries are represented between us all.
Meanwhile, we continue with our EHS Ambassador of the Month, this time introducing our EduCom Member, Prof Roberto Binazzi, from Italy (see below). Thanks to him.

EHS Ambassador of the month, Roberto Binazzi, Italy
I was born in Perugia, Umbria, a bordering and twin region of Tuscany, for the common Etruscan origin. After graduating in Medicine, I did my Residency at the University of Pisa with Professor Pier Giorgio Marchetti, then made two Fellowships, one in Salzburg (Austria) and the other one in New York, at the Hospital for Special Surgery, with John Insall. My academic career started as Assistant Professor at the University of Pisa, then Assistant and Associate Professor at the Rizzoli Institute-University of Bologna for almost 30 years. Now I am working in a private Hospital as Director of the Dept. of Hip Surgery.
In my spare time, I run with my Australian wife a property in the mild countryside of Umbria, where we produce high quality olive oil (mostly Moraiolo olives) during an hectic week, usually a the end of October. On this occasion we get together with our friends to enjoy the tasty cuisine and excellent wines of Umbria. None of our 3 daughters chose to be a Doctor and this filled me with joy.

The international conference “Advanced treatment of hip and knee pathology” was held on the 25-26th April 2019 in Kharkiv, Ukraine. This conference was organized by Sytenko Institute of Spine and Joint Pathology, which is the oldest research and educational institution in Ukraine and a leading institution in orthopaedic surgery that uses cutting-edge techniques and approaches.
Twice we organized such a conference in cooperation with the European Hip Society and the highlight of this event was the participation of distinguished members of the EHS. We were honored for the first time to be working in partnership with EFORT. The educational value of the conference is determined by the fact that this event was accredited by the European Orthopaedics & Traumatology Education Platform (EOTEP).
This is 2-day event with 12 symposiums which discussed modern conceptions in hip and knee pathology, including conservative treatment, joint preservation surgery, complex primary and revision surgery, with particular attention to prophylaxis and management of complications, novelties in diagnosis and treatment of prosthetic joint infection.
The faculty consisted of 31 speakers, including the chair of the EHS Educational Committee Prof. Gosta Ullmark, the EHS president elect Prof. Klaus Siebenrock, the Vice Chairman of EHS Scientific Committee Prof. Theofilos Karachalios, member of EHS Educational Committee Eduardo Garcia-Rey, the EFORT president Prof. Per Kjærsgaard-Andersen, the EFORT FORA chairmen Prof. George Macheras, Prof. Gennaro Pipino from Bologna and Prof. Francesco Benazzo from Pavia (Italy), Prof. Rodrigo Mardones from Chile, Prof. Siegfried Hofmann from Austria, Prof. Nicolas Giraldo from Columbia, Oliver Marín-Peña from Spain, Maziar Mohaddes from Sweden, Afshin Taheriazam from Iran, Prof. Shubnyakov Igor from Vreden Institute and other world experts in hip and knee pathology.
In this event was provided “Best Paper Award” session, in which the best 3 works of Ukrainian young orthopedic surgeons were orally presented.
I would like to say thank to our organizing committee team, all invited guest speakers, to the great support of EHS and EFORT in organizing a such high level scientific and educational event.
