On May 21 at the Annual Meeting of the Bulgarian Orthopaedic and Trauma Association in Varna, we had an EFORT FORA with the contribution of the immediate EHS Past President, Dr Jean-Alain Epinette.
The faculty also included EHS Member Prof E Sariali from Paris and EHS members from Bulgaria Dr Jordan Valeshkov from the Medical University of Pleven and EHS National Representative for Bulgaria, Prof Plamen Kinov from Sofia.
The topic of the symposium was joint replacement in high developmental hip dysplasia and we presented cases and discussed in depth some very interesting treatment approaches. The highlight of the programme was the use of mini approach with custom made stem for treatment of complex hip cases, demonstrated by Prof Sariali.
As agreed by all participants, complex hip surgery needs extensive training and a devoted team approach.
At the event we had a closed meeting of the EHS members from Bulgaria. Dr Epinette talked about activities and initiatives of EHS and possibilities for joint initiatives were discussed. Orthowave joint registry was presented and the start of a pilot Bulgarian chapter was agreed. Five joint replacement centres were selected to participate in the new project. The aim is the future development of Bulgarian joint replacement register.
